Friscovania has two very distinct parts—there’s the kids’ haunted carnival from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the live music and haunted fashion show from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. which is geared toward adults. When creating the aesthetic, we had to develop a logo, color scheme, and graphics that would work equally well for both portions of the event.
First, we worked with Allison Hyde of Hyde Graphics. Before the Friscovania logo and stadium map, Allison created each of our hand-lettered Wellness Wednesday theme words and accompanying quotes. You can see a lot of her beautiful hand-lettering here. As soon as we got the go-ahead on Friscovania, we contacted Allison to see if she’d be interested in creating the logo and a mock-up of what the stadium would look like with all the different stations.
It took her about 2.5 milliseconds to say yes and hop onboard this amazing cause.
Toni had an idea of what she wanted to incorporate and the general layout of the logo. She wanted it to look like a skyline over the outline of Texas with some instantly recognizable Frisco landmarks. Plus, maybe a few fun and spooky Halloween elements. Allison took that idea and ran with it. We went back and forth, tweaking and revising each draft until we ended up with the final product that you see today!
Next we sent the logo to the team at Range to create banners, social media icons, and ads for the event. With our MB graphics, we love the black and white aesthetic because it’s minimal but forever classic and elegant. We wanted to keep the classic and elegant elements but give them a little twist, just a pop of color to really lend an eye-catching appeal to the Friscovania graphics.
The idea of a haunted carnival and the look of all those red-and-white-striped tents kept running through our minds. Toni asked Range if they could give the imagery a pop of that vintage red that would be instantly recognizable. Range reversed Allison’s logo so that it was white on charcoal gray and then added in whimsical swirls and pops of red.
Needless to say, we adore the way they perfectly captured the spooktacular fun of this event!
Range also created fantastic ad images to reflect both sides of the event.
What I love about the overall aesthetic is that it fits with both the kids portion and the adults portion and, most importantly, pays homage to all the wonderful things that make Frisco unique. Friscovania is, first and foremost, for the community. It’s benefiting City House, which is a local nonprofit whose mission is to provide emergency shelter and transitional residential services to at-risk children and young adults who are in need due to abuse, neglect, or homelessness. Each person involved with Friscovania hopes it will be a memorable event for the whole community and that it will inspire everyone to come out and make unforgettable Halloween memories together.
We extend a huge thank-you to Allison Hyde and Range for doing remarkable work in such a short amount of time.
