If you’ve never heard of Galentine’s Day, that’s okay! The idea originated on Season 2, episode 16 of Parks and Recreation. Amy Poehler’s character, Leslie Knope, deems February 13 Galentine’s Day, a day for lady friends to get together and celebrate their friendships and each other.
I thought it would be fun to ask some of my online friends and real-life friends what their idea of a perfect Galentine’s Day would be. Here are 9 unique, fun ways to spend Galentine’s Day with all the awesome women in your life.

A great way to celebrate Galentine’s Day with friends would be to have a relaxing spa day and get pampered together! Everyone is so busy these days, so it would be nice to just chill out and relax with massages, facials, pedicures, and manicures.

One of my favorite things to do with the girls to celebrate Galentine’s Day is to go to our local fondue restaurant, split a bottle of wine, a pot of cheese, some decadent chocolate, and a whole lot of laughter.

Ice skating and boozy hot chocolate (after the skating of course)!

Typically my friends come into town and we hang out. Last year I traveled with my friend to Austin. We went on a bike ride. We also ate delicious BBQ. We tried to make the trip budget friendly so no shopping was involved! The most important thing we talked about was how we should appreciate one another. We also people watched, which is pretty hilarious down on Dirty 6th. Oddly enough, I fell in love with the city and decided to move there!
Erin Howell: Sister, Bandmate, and Best Friend
Homemade margaritas and coloring!

This Galentine’s I’m excited to share with all my gals what makes them special and just why I love them so much with cheesy, over-the-top encouragement because what better time than Galentine’s to do it?! It’ll be a glittery, sparkling, sticker-scattered expression of the things I love most about them all done up in regular Valentine’s fashion. We’re going to share cards with one another and be as open with our compliments as we possibly can for an afternoon. I’m pretty excited!

For me, nothing beats inviting all your favorite gals over to get all fancied up together (obviously with wine in hand) and then head out for a long night of dancing—preferably an 80s/new wave night where no one takes themselves too seriously!

This year, my friend and I are hosting a Galentine’s tea party–complete with the frilliest, girliest accoutrements. We’re hoping to Skype in a mutual friend who lives in Ireland so that she can school us on real Gaelic tea style.
I really love mimosas and a potluck brunch, and since Galentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, it’s a perfect excuse to invite my besties over for a full-on smorgasbord. I’ll provide the mimosa fixins! They can bring the breakfast goodies! (Maybe we’ll throw in some Tarot card readings to spice it up.)
