Our Story

What began as an online community of women and fashionistas helping one another through open ears, fun stories, advice, and even recipes transformed into a greater, region-wide commitment and determination to bringing aid to women and children of North Texas with the sudden loss of our dear friend, Kelly Whaley.

Kelly Whaley was a phenomenal make-up artist and single mom whose passions were fashion, rock music, Halloween, and her five-year-old son. She was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. She was given a week to live. We banded together, stayed with her, and tended to her needs long nights at the hospital. Everything for all of us changed, and it all seemed too soon.

Kelly left behind her young son. She also left behind hope and resolve in us. Together, we hoped to secure her son’s future by channeling the legacy of his mother’s love. Friscovania was born out of her spooky sense of design and fun, her strength as a woman, and her care in children.

Since 2016, Model Behaviors has teamed up with FC Dallas to bring the North Texas community Friscovania, a community event packed with carnival games and food, live entertainment, a public costume contest, and our signature high-production fashion show. With an extremely successful Friscovania 2016, with all proceeds going to Kelly’s son and City House, we were encouraged to organize this event once more the following year, and again in subsequent years. Thanks to MLS Works and our combined resolution to foster an inclusive community, Friscovania 2019 became the first Friscovania that was open free to the public.

Friscovania has benefited City House and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County, and we’re looking to help even more charities. We have paved our way into becoming an official 501c3 nonprofit organization in order to expand our capability to aid those in need. With our Friscovania Grant, we’ll be able to offer funding to like-minded local charities, who in turn will be able to provide more and better resources to the women and children of North Texas. Model Behaviors has always been and will always be about community.
