Ladies Night Out with A Purpose was an evening to remember! Thank you to all women and friends and family who made it out to the event and to those who were with us in spirit and in our thoughts.
Last year our dear friend and single mom, Kelly Whaley, passed away within two months of a diagnosis of stage IV breast cancer. She left behind her young son, Gunner. Kelly was our family, and we were hers, and we are Gunner’s. We knew there were more women and more children out there who were and would be affected the same way our tight group of friends had been—struck whilst unprepared, left in the darkness of sudden loss.
But from that darkness has come light and purpose in the form of prevention and awareness. As Kelly spread her wings, so did we.
Ladies Night Out with A Purpose has been our way to shine a light on the suddenness of cancer and terminal illnesses, to inform others with our story, to give women time. Time to prepare. Time to for a chance. Time to take action.
Ladies Night Out with A Purpose was born out of our partnership with FC Dallas in Kelly’s honor, and with the commitment of our presenting partner, AdvoCare, we have been able to enrich the lives of women in our community. We have taken the Ladies Night Out concept and added a distinct wellness component and “A Purpose.” Not only are we bringing awareness to breast cancer and prevention, we are helping women in our community take action. With the help of Ruthie’s Rolling Café, provided by Texas Health Resources, we have begun delivering the first mobile mammogram screenings to 100 underserved women in the North Texas area with our Mammogramathon. We thank Ruthie’s Rolling Café for helping us give these women agency in their own lives.
An undertaking as big as Ladies Night Out with A Purpose could not have been possible without the long days and nights of preparation leading up to it, ensuring not only its success but its very existence. We all must send a heartfelt thank you to the rest of our partners, all talent, FCD staff, our players, our Host Committee, all wellness booths and pop-up market vendors, and every single volunteer. This event would never have happened without their help, support, and dedication to strengthening the women of our communities.
We thank our entertainment partner Kroger, our associate partner Smile Doctors, our food partner Carpet Tech, our branding partners Raising Cane’s and Hilti, our specialty drink partner Luna Azul, and our bar staffing provided by Legends Catering. A special thank you to our FC Dallas soccer players and musical talent for supporting our efforts and warming the hearts of all the women in attendance: Tesho Akindele, Maxi Urruti, Chris Seitz, Victor Ulloa, Reggie Cannon, Walker Zimmerman, Johnny Hayes, Austin Allsup, Bass Junkies, and host Kris Lezetc. Thank you to all the wonderful FC Dallas staff, led by Megan Miller, for their commitment to this event.
There must always be time to browse, to seek, and to decide on the things that promote our own health. Our Wellness Booths gave guests of the night that time. A big thank you goes to Ted Fox Events, Nha Khanh, SoulTopia, Walk Beside Me, Sense Candles, Orange Theory, Kendra Scott, and Massage District for giving women options to explore. As women, it’s hard to put ourselves first when we are often responsible for so many others. At Ladies Night Out with A Purpose, we didn’t have to, thanks to our babysitting partner, Seeking Sitters, who made it possible for mothers to come and have a good time while knowing that the kiddos were in good hands.
Time does not wait, but for an exceptional set of women this evening, time was on their side. Our Host Committee shared their stories of battling breast cancer, so that they may spread awareness and advocate the importance of early detection. Thank you, Ann Harris, Christine Hayes, Jen Calyer, Jessie Jones, Khanh Ngyugen, Mary Bentley, Sabrina Harrison, Ursula Myles, Wendy Lawhon, and Yvonne Crum. Your stories are our stories, and your successes and triumphs are our inspirations.
Although not all names have been listed, please know that your contribution has been no less substantial to the running of the show, to the gathering of guests, and to the common cause of women’s health and wellbeing. We have taken our lives into our own hands, but we also reach out to others so that all women can take ahold of their own chance to succeed. Our deepest appreciation goes out to everyone who has allowed Ladies Night Out with A Purpose to bring women together to make a difference this time, and the next.
