In North Texas alone, one-third of women who are at the head of their households, also live below the poverty line. But, more importantly, this isn’t just a trend that we’re seeing across Texas, this is a national problem. In America, 42 million single mothers and their 28 million kids are living this way.
Maria Shriver takes a closer look at this problem, by telling certified nursing assistant Katrina Gilbert’s astonishing and deeply personal story. The single mother of three kids struggles to survive and her single story represents what is happening to a very large part of our society. After reading, “The Shriver Report: A Woman’s Nation Pushes Back from the Brink,” we can’t wait to watch the premiere of her HBO film, “From Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life & Times of Katrina Gilbert,” tonight at 9pm EST on HBO.
You can watch the film on HBO tonight or click here for additional times and to register for a free streaming event.
Shriver.org is also encouraging women to share their story of living from paycheck to paycheck. You can send an email to email@example.com with Paycheck-to-Paycheck in the subject line and include your name, city and state where you live, story in 500 words or less, and attach a photo.
